I am working on my Asylum door and purchased some fabric for the top part of the door that didn't work. What fabric have you guys used in the past and how did you install it on the door?

    Thanks Rick

I don't usually associate "door" with "fabric". What are you trying to do?

Is the fabric supposed to provide a certain texture to the door? Is the fabric for a window in the door? Is the fabric for a projection through a window in the door?

The fabric must be able to stretch when the axe from the back hits the door. It is hard to describe you would need to see a video

Okay, what you want is a tight weave fabric, possibly doubled up.

If I were building this, I might try something a little thicker, like shower or pool liner, as the first layer, then cover that with something with a tight weave that will take paint but without showing the fabric too much.

Another option would be to use beef netting, but it's more expensive and harder to get.

This fabric has the highest percentage of spandex per thread count. Should be very elastic. You would need to stain it with a paint sprayer, and then drip acrylics for that rusted metal look.

What is the best way to install the fabric on the door? Should you glue it on? How much stretching of fabric should you do when installing it?

    Thanks

    Here is another source.

As far as how much? If you want the prop to look real, my guess is that the whole door should be covered. That way the door will look the same all over. To get the real deep dent that would occur if the door was metal, you will need to glue the fabric around the ax opening. Oh and make sure you observe the video and act out the video yourself to place the ax cuts at the correct height and angle.
