Thank you in advance for any help on this question. I recently bought the kmart solar firefly light strings someone mentioned on this site. They work great but in the tree they are going in the solar panel wont charge. I have three of them that I would like to power with a 4.5 volt power supply. They each take 1.5 volts and just wondered if wiring them in series would spread the voltage out correctly or not. Anyone who knows more than me please help.

Ok, I am no electrician but rated voltage is not the same as say speaker impedance(Ohm ratings) wiring configurations or even xmas lights. This is what I am just assuming you are basing this theory on.. It can potentially fry the units if they are connected to a higher amperage then what is required/specified for use. Now you may ad resistors to them but I am not sure what you are working with exactly and could not recommend an exact type. There are many here that know about these things and could help point you in the right direction. Best of luck with the lights!

If the power supply says it's regulated then it should be fine no matter what the amperage is. Use a multimeter to test it. If it immediately swings to 4.5v and holds there (may be a tiny bit off, like 4.3-4.7) then it's probably regulated. If it swings wildly and settles on something like 7.9 volts, then it's not regulated, and will only work with a product that takes that exact voltage and amperage, or it will burn it out if the required amperage is lower than what is stated on the power supply.
