Hello,
I am looking at building a Asylum Door prop this summer and have a few questions.
1) I will be replacing my garage side door with this prop. My current door is
32" wide. What size TV do you recommend using? I was thinking of a 22" LCD with a 16x9 format. Would this be large enough and is the the correct format that will go along with the DVD?
2) How do you guys trigger your prop to go off? What do you use?
3) Is there any good sights showing how to build the door?
4) Is there any good sights showing how to do the controlls?
5) Which of the DVD's pale nights produce do you guys like the best with this prop?
Thanks

24 - 26" flat screen is recommended for realistic size format on vid. 22" will work, but a little small.
As for door builds, none I know of, Hi rez's dvd comes with all build, control, trigger directions. Hi-rez is the only one selling just vids, Pale nite sells the whole package only. When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

I believe almost any question you may have is already answered on here. Just search "Asylum Door" and you should have multiple threads on various door builds. I have answered a few questions concerning our build throughout this thread:
Villa De Los Muertos 2010 video
Does this help at all?
But essentially our door just uses a DTMF encoder we bought from http://pimpmyprop.com/store.htm There are sounds encoded onto the dvd tracks that the DTMF board reads to open and close the relays for the various animations.

When you buy a DVD fro Hi-Rez you have access to his documents on the build. That is what I did. Printed them out, took them to Lowes to buy the lumber/wood needed. Added my own touches like a hanging lamp over on top of the door. Didn't go as far as doing the axes coming through the door, but will have the door handle jiggle while the action is going on. And I also converted a cheap DVD player I got from Target to trip and play only once the DVD of the axe killer using a Picaboo F103 and a pressure mat ( both bought from Frightprops ). You can see my door in my album section ( 2010 Halloween ). And yes, search asylum door and you will find a full thread with numerous postings of others and their build. Plenty of suggestions and knowledge there. Also, contact Hi-Rez and he can also go over anything you may need to do. Good luck.

We purchased dual acting MAC soleniods and dual acting cylinders with about a 4 - 6 inch throw from fright props.

Build pics in above link. Video Below:

I would start with the Hi Rez DVD.
TIP:
Make sure you test the lcd or led HDTV in the store first to see how the display looks from the sde when the screen is mounted vertically. There are differences in viewing angles which will be apparent when used in this fashion.
