We just recently picked up a 3 channel color light organ kit from cana-kit
http://www.canakit.com/3-channel-ac-...185-uk185.html
Some of you might remember analog color organs from back in the 70's. there used to make lights flash to the beat of music. (low med and high freq)
We purchased the unassembled version for $44.95 (locally from an electronic's store)
For an extra $20 you can purchase them pre-assembled.
It's a fairly straight forward bread board build. If you can solder, save yourself a few bucks and assemble it yourself.
We built ours into a wooden box with 3 standard electrical outlets. (6 plugs in total) the ac is isolated from the board and can be wired 110v ac with 220watts per channel or 220v ac with 440w per channel. (we went with 110v ac)
Each channel is fully ajustable.
I have all my jar lighting (led deck light kit from rona-$30) hooked up to the bass or low channel. (which needs to be dialed down a little in the vid)
the light above the shelves is the mid channel and the redlight in the fuse box being the high channel. (will eventually be changed out for a blue light)
I thought ya might like to see the organ in action. this is all being run with aid of the built in mic, an ipod and ipod docking/speaker station. (all hidden in the shelving) A little fog and the effect should be complete. (this isn't my final soundtrack, Im just experimenting with the way the lights/sounds playoff one another)
View My Video
This is a fantastic little device for making thunder/lightning role around the yard, or a fire effect in your windows. And when not in use for halloween, It's great for party lighting (with music).
It's alot of effect withlittle investment.
At $50 ya can't go wrong.

That has a nice effect! I never would have thought to use it in that scene but it works really well!

If I hadn't seen the video, I wouldn't have caught on. That is a lot of effect. I'm just getting into the micro controllers, thx for the info. The lab is too cool to. I like how you have stayed true to a time period, "The Hey Day of Horror". Nothing creates tension like a medical environment. Good job!

Thx guys. Appreciate that!
The light organ really does have a 101 uses in the haunters bag of tricks.
My lab does stretch over a few decades. the earliest pieces are turn of the century, while some of the newer items are 1960's.
I figure doctors probably don't throw too much away, so I'm not that far off the mark. lol
The fuse box lighting was inspired by the resent sparking fuse box thread.
I would have loved to throw a few electronic fire crackers in the fuse box, but time just wont allow it.
I figured the fog and light organ where a close second for the effect.
I'm sure I'll ad them after we get our show outta the way at the end of april.

I need some sort of ac powered (100watt or less) light/lighting device to put inside my anethisia ventelator.
(to be hooked up to the light organ)

I could use a standard bulb but was hoping for something a little more interesting.
any suggestion's? (the cheaper the better.lol)
Looks like I'm not the first to have this idea, there is a small light tube inside
(looks like a blue glow necklace with wires)

inner dimension, I have approx 21"
I though about getting an 18" blacklight. with the event not being all that dark, the steel cage over the cylinder and the other lights in the set flashing, I wondered how much of the effect would be lost . Unless its dark blacklights really aren't that bright.
Are uv lights (other than blacklights) safe to look at?

the florescent lights are diffused enough that they would not be directly to the eye, also the effects would not be all that lost.
