One more lost soul to the draw of 3 axis. Here's a short video of my first test. Plan is to add three pirates this year....

I tried doing something similar last year but I found the skull I used was entirely too heavy to get decent movement from a servo. Where did you get the skull from? And do you have a good link to the plans for servo placement? I was trying to wing it on my own and the placement never worked out right for me.
Any direction especially on a source for the skull - would be awesome. Anything I could find that was lightweight looked like garbage. The one good skull I got was so heavy, there was no way a servo could handle moving anything but the jaw.

thanks all for the nice comments.
lorddamax, the skull is a plain old 4th quality bucky. I did, however, have to use a Dremel to remove a lot of excess material to make it lighter. The guidance for servo placement and connecting rod layout was all from Halloweenbob's epic postings ---my 3 axis skull progress

I made this one from scratch, and as it turns out the linkage setup is not nearly as clean a I'd like, but it works. The key, it seems, is to try to get as close as you can to 90 degree angles between the servo motors and linkage arms, as shown near the bottom of this page of the post

A Graveyard Skulls Lindberg kit is on order--the Lindbergs are lighter and the kit parts should be in better shape than what I carved out, so it will be interesting to see the difference in how these two guys move.

There is a lot of cleanup to do to get the jaw servos in better sync with the audio, and only one of the characters have all three axis working (controller board issue, the mechanics in the skulls work great), but here is a video showing part of the routine. There is about 3 or 4 minutes of banter followed by the group signing a great sea shanty that I ran across sung by Sting called Blood Red Roses. Total run time will be about 6 minutes with the routine restarting every 25 minutes or so.
Hope you like it
