I am trying to figure out the best material for adding dimension to the arms i made for the animatronic character in a haunt. For alot of props i used cut up pool noodles, but they give a very unified look to them. I would like to use cast plastic shells like disney, but dont really have the set up to make them.
I was thinking of possible trying some very thin plexi glass, a heat gun and my arm as a mold but i dont want to burn my self.
Any alternative suggestions would be greatly apprciated.
I attached a picture of one of the arms im looking to add the shells to.

You can sculpt your pool noodle with a hot wire.
You could stop here, or
Make a two piece mold of your sculpted pool noodle or your own arm.

Cast it with a resin and a slosh technique that will coat the mold, not fill it. this will give you your "Skins"

you want to make it thicker to look more sureal like an arm you can make a cast ve seen people take a towel line it thick with expanding foam and wrap it up and it comes out just like a circular sleeve and then you can ahave it down and run wire through the middle.

Joshua17ss2, did you see the thread I started on the packaging tape contest a little while ago? I'll come back and link to it. It might be a cheap, quick and easy solution for you to create the shape of the arm with using your own arm or a family members as the model.
Here's the link to the thread: Invisible Man and other ideas -- Tape Sculpting
