Um... Hmm.
Try this, maybe?
It may make the whole thing too narrow though, in which case you'd need to do the cut in coffincut2.jpg, but if you're already at the length you need to be you'll probably have to start over.

Yup - Xane has illustrated exactly what you need to do.

You could cut it in half and do a ground breaker coffin.
For a full size traditional toe pincher coffin, you need 6 corners, not 8.
Then again, maybe you can start a new trend
Not to critique, but it must be difficult to use a jigsaw flat on the ground. Doesn't the blade get caught up in the grass or bounce off the pavement?Doctor Grim

OK, just a bit of advise....(assuming the picture of the board being cut was actual and not just staged for this forum).....when you use a Jig saw (which I think that is what you are using from your picture), you need to have the board you are cutting AWAY from the ground!! The blade will hit the dirt and not allow you to maintain control; not to mention the blade can breakl!! Try putting the board on a saw horse or if not available maybe put a 2x4 or milk crate or something under the board to put some space between the Jig saw blade and the ground. Then you can attempt the cuts that were recommended above. Good luck!

i am going to ingor it for a while then i will get back to it. I do not have a place to place this to correctly cut it, hence using the jigsaw on the ground. I am mostly concern about trying to get it shape the right way.

if you don't have a saw horse or anything like that, use the porch. just overhang the lid so that the blade doesnt hit the treads. If that doesn't work, the great and powerful 5 gallon bucket (about $4 at lowes if you dont have any) is a great portable saw horse. Just slip one under each end and viola!!
