I really do not want to promote someone doing this with out the proper knowledge on the subject. Dealing with propane is no light matter, you need to take proper safety measures. Make sure the valve you are using is regulated for flammable gases, and that it is a normally closed valve. That way it requires power to open it, if by chance you lose power it will remain shut and safe. You can use black iron pipe from lowes or home depot, make sure to use teflon tape. Test your device with compressed air before you actually use propane. You need some kind of ignition source, I recommend a small propane pilot light. Some use glowpugs or glow coils to great success. I recommend google'ing alot before you attempt this, its dangerous. I am in no way responsible for the information I have said, this is all in your hands.

This may be a silly question but I'm askin' anyway, how could a piece for water irrigation work with fire?
I'd stay far away from real fire unless I were a pro with it but that's just me.Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

Having dealt with pyrotechnics, I would never use irrigation piping...???!! & unless you have experience - don't play with something that can & will have disastrous results if done wrong.
I've seen propane tanks go boom - not a pretty site. Nor the shrapnel in all directions......... There is no CHEAP way to play with fire / pyrotechnic effects. Please be careful if you proceed.....When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

it's was not irrigation pipe just the value that turns the water on and off. really all i want to do is send fire in the air as a big flame. i have seen some flex pipe and a value but just not sure where to get it from. also the pilot light a little worried that the flame would go out in a little bit of wind. where do i get the glowplugs from.

I don't play with the real thing, preferring the safer faux flame effect, but I've seen a prop I just love. The builder used weed burning torches from Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalog...t?q=weed+torch sounds alot safer then irrigation pipes. FYI someone, no not us, tried to build the prop and managed to burn down he neighbor's wooden fence instead.

Do not by any means use an irrigation valve!!!!!!!!! The valve is one of the most key components for the system. There is a rating for use with gas. Also as said before you should use a normally closed valve, with a spring return preferrable. I am not an expert on what you are speaking of, but I have worked in the natural gas industry building equipment for it. I wanted to do the same thing last year and was shot down by the organization. It is a fantastic effect but has much inherent danger attached to it. Do your research before you start, remember, a misshap can kill you too!!

i really thank all of you for the help with this. if anybody knows of a step by step instuctions wedsite please let me know. and no irrigation valve i promise. i just have to do something for this hayride. we have a couple of people using it now but i dont want to let people know what in planing to do.
my plans are for a insane hosptail with a watch tower being the control room for the skit. the wagons will pull up in between the hosptail rooms that i will build and a little story line will start. a few seconds later all hell brakes loss and the fire from the top of the watch tower

Know why you never see fireballs at a pro haunt? Because bad things will happen when fire is mixed with people. Fireballs throw out ALOT of heat as well as flame - to a great distance. There was a thread, I think it was on this forum, using fog and lighting to simulate fire with an emphasis on looking up at the effect from below. Sounds like just what you need.
I'd re-think this one.

cheapest way is a can of hair spray and a lighter ,point hair spray away from face, spray and use lighter ,i think the bug foggers are highly flammable also ,at least you can light it and run...i am not a professional arsonist so maybe don't try this at home lol, i also thought about shooting flames out my chimney, hay they said my two story slide was to dangerous ,always pre program your cell phone with 911 before stating a halloween project
