Hey guys and gals, I was hoping you could help me out.
I have an up coming show where I'll be setting up an old creepy doc's office.
It's a mini horror flick convention/competition (tonnes of morbid peeps I imagen)
I've been telling people for months that I need old creepy stuff to fill the shelves.
My neighbour 2 doors down recently lost his father. Well his father was a hoarder, Big time!
He has barns full of trash. (stacked to the roof!)
Anyhoo, my neighbour is finding alot of really creepy stuff. Old back braces, jars, old outdoor farm lamp shades and a lot of dead animals. (many of which are pretty much in a mummified state.)
Now I love animals! I have 3 cats myself. (always have had a cat in the home)
I would never hurt an animal (even in a fit of anger)
Now the first bones to arrive where just pieces of.
I bleached them and did a couple small sculptures using the bones.
I carved an ivory skull and mounted it on a tail bone, mounted most of a skull and built a spider out of small bones. (threw them under glass domes and they will be sealed up tight)
Well then stranger items started showing up, like this mummified mouse.
And the animals keep getting larger.
Mummified cats and racoons in a similar state. (I figured maybe those pic's are too graphic for t.v.)
With my eldest cat (20 years) fast approaching the end of days. I'm concerned with my approach with these bones. I'm almost positive now thats a cat tail in the first pic and perhaps a cat skull.
So my question to the board, What is exceptable? (in your eyes)
Are the bone sculptures over the top?
What about the mummified mouse?
And if that's ok what about larger mummified animals under glass?
Straight up, there good and creepy!
thx guys and gals, I appreciate the input.

So far they look cool to me. Without seeing pictures of the mummified cat and raccoon, not sure how scary they look. But, you see raccoon skins all the time. Are kids going to see this? Perhaps a kid my not like the cat one. But, I sure some would love it! Guess it depends on the kid.

It's a short horror film convention. I imagen there will be some kids there, but not many.
We'll also have an embalming table preventing anybody from getting real close to the display.
The cats are pretty creepy.
they can be viewed here in my tinypic photo album.
I just put them in these jars temporarly to keep the dead at bay until i decide what to do with them. (throw them out, use them as sculpture etc)
They are grosse, they are dead and they do look somewhat mummified.
Please do not look if you have a weak stomach or hate to see dead animals!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Go for it, I believe kids/teens today are alot more desensitized to death and dead things. Look at all of these ultra-realistic horror (gore-porn) movies coming out in the past years. I know I was fascinated by dead stuff when I was a kid, deer skulls and bones. If we found a dead wild animal we would try and bleach the bones and what not. I think it should be fine for the age group that would be going to a horror film convention.
BTW, I really like the cat tail and skull, its very uniqueWe stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside of us

I found a mummified fox in my parents' barn. I plan on reassembling the skeleton with some fine wire and putting it on a stand.

There are other holidays besides Halloween? When did they start that?

I am a big softie when it comes to all animals. I would never hurt one - I currently take care of a group of strays that are living in my backyard.

That being said, I don't have a problem with these. I consider them found art. I found a squirrel skull cleaning out a flower bed and cleaned it and plan on mounting it similar to how you have done.
As long as you're not trapping and killing these animals (or encouraging the trapping and killing of things like cats
) then you're fine as far as I'm concerned.

I'm fine with it. I think MOST people will think they are cool. Some people might be a little grossed out, but that's their problem. Heck, I paid to see similar stuff: http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/

This reminded me of the discovery show called Oddities. If they can do it why can't you?

Also do not see a problem with this.

I think it's perfectly fine for the doctors office set up. People (most) love to see odd things, gawking is a pass time for many. I personally would love to have mumified animals cluttering up my haunt!
