Nedd to make lots of spiders of different sizes... some from around a foot in diameter at the body w/o legs to just a few inches.
Any ideas on the cheapest fastest ways?

I do mine the easy way... buy 'em
. j/k
If you're looking for some in the (approx) 2 " range (from tip to tip), Party City has them for 35 cents. Different colors. I got some last week that I'm going to spray paint black.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I found some nice big ones (the size of my hand) at Dollarama (dollar store) in the kids/toy iles.

I'll have to look around ... but many of them that I want would be closer to 24" in diameter with the legs.... Afraid that may be pretty expensive. I would like to have about large ones, 10 med ones (15" ) and bunches of smaller.

How about this:

IMHO, this is a decent price for a spider this size.
Hope this helps."Waiter, there's a hair in my soylent green!"

It is a great price! But bad thing... I need MANY of them so it would end up costing too much.

I may just go with the spray foam method. I have some beach balls that I may cut in half and fill with foam. When set I can just cover with fur. I'll see how this works.
Thanks for the help. Why is it soooo difficult to find CHEAO ways to make stuff ?!?!?!?!?

For the large one (24") I have bought fake fur and various felts and made'em. Use clothes hangers for your legs.Take one of your clothes hangers and needle nose pliers and make the smallest hook you can on one end. run this through the felt of the leg after you get it sewed to turn the felt right side out. I used batting to stuff it, just because my wife already had it. The fabrics are so inexpensive that you my only need to make one, but even a yard of this and a yard of that makes for many spiders. I wouldn't go over board on details even with a spider this size, black and low light... I spent a lot of time on fangs, red beads for eyes and I can't see it and I know it's there. I would like to do some more, make the head out of latex...

here's an intersting ( & creeepy) take on a spider.
http://www.instructables.com/id/Chea...ider-Illusion/
i know I saw a thread somewhere on the internet, not sure which forum, of an awesome spider. still trying to find it.
But it was made with stacked foam, sanded down into the shape of the spider; monster mudded; legs were PVC. For a pointy, claw look on the tip of the leg, he used a sharpened foam paint brush (the disposable-type) then stuck inside the PVC. For the mouth, he used the plastic vampire teeth. etc....
