I do a lot of welding and fabercation. There are some things I do a little different build wise, but for someone who doesn't weld or fabercate, it's a great book.

Is there a good prop book for someone that is starting to weld for the first time this year? Picked up a small MIG for XMas last year and am just trying to get some ideas.

With welding it is hard to learn by a book. At least for me it was. I took a couple of classes at the local community college. But if you decide not to do that, get a bunch of scrap steel and just start playing, but do so safely. Make sure you have a welding helmet, welding gloves and if you don't have a welding jacket wear a long sleve cotton shirt.
For gas I use a CO2\Argon mix. The gas bottle will cost you if your mig didn't come with one. But after you have the bottle, you can take it into Home Depot, Lowe's or any place that sells welding gasses and enchange when it is empty and depending on the size, won't cost much for the exchange.
If you decide just to wire weld with it, make sure you get the wire with the flux core. Wire welding will cause splatter and you will have to do some clean up work after.
