I've been in the process of designing a car prop. Basically its the front end ( the section right after the windshield ) of a Karmen Ghia and what happens is the headlights go on and the horn blares. This is a classic scare nothing to original. But what I'm asking you guys is how do I move this 70-80 pound prop at least 2 feet forward for a resonable price? I mean it doesent have to move, but it would really add to the effect! I have a cart frame for it to sit on plus the frame has wheels ( I will build rails ). I just cant figure out how to move it, stormdoor closers arent long enough, a homemade PVC piston wouldent retract on a horizontal axis, and hydraulics would be to expensive. So please give me some ideas to move this thing. Thanks.

dude stop tring to kill people and go on e-bay and look for a long pneumatic cylider i got 2 18" throw ones for $55 1.5" so they can move alot of weight you just have to keep looking as of course threre is no predicion what will be available at any given time but there is still plenty of time till the great day the
the other thing you could do id just put your rals on a slightly downward angle that way you only need to power th return not the forward push

well Frightprops 1 1/16 bore at 100psi pushes 89lbs and retracts 81lbs u can run up to 120lbs psi air into them so that would easily put u over your 80-90 lb threshhold
oh yeah i want a video too i have been wanting to goto a jumkyard and do that classic prop for so long i have to see it in action thanks

I think it was a reference to using a storm door closer or especially the pvc version of "tube of doom waiting to happen".....

Make sure your rail rolls as easy as possible to make it easier on the solenoids. Think 2 cyl would prob be best for control & speed. Make sure you run a stop chain or cable (not rope) behind it with just a link or 2 more in case something it breaks loose coming forward. Safety always

Just thinking outside the box here: who says it has to be pneumatic?
