I am getting ready to get an air brush sprayer and was hoping the pros here with experience using them could suggest the best one to purchase. I am thinking around 100-150 bucks?????? I have looked at them in the craft stores but not sure which one. Can you use a 120 psi pancake air compressor with them? any tips will help. Thanks in advance for the help.

You can as long as you can adjust it down and be on the semi-accurate side. I use a small airbrush compressor that runs 38 psi continously. So I know I am safe. I use a Badge professional 150 air brush which is a bottom feed ( small glass jars ). And comes with a gravity feed attachment that you can pour your paint into that and it still feeds from the bottom. some airbrushes are top feed so it depends on what you like. Now tha airbrush I use is for small hobbies like 1/16 military tanks which I paint with. But you can airbrush a mask, small statues, etc... So I am not sure what your main reason is for it's use. Otherwise you would need to go to a Home Depot for the large spray guns to paint walls, large areas, etc... then you would need that 120 psi compressor.

An Iwata HP-BH is the second airbrush I've gotten and have fallen head over heals... http://www.iwata-medea.com/index.php/products/hp_bh It makes awesome tiny fine lines but you can still pull away and get decent coverage for larger props. Used it for all the airbrush work on the horse. A spray gun was used for the base coat of black (that was a 'need a bigger boat' thing).

A middle of the road brush would be the Iwata HP-BCS: http://www.iwata-medea.com/index.php/products/hp_bcs It allows you to spray a boatload of paint but still get some decent lines.
By the way, I'm gonna move this thread to the props section. You'll get more responses there and this section is for people looking for sellers to buy from.

I use Iwata mostly. My HP CS model is my main gun, since its so versatile. Its top gravity feed has the larger resevoir (and a cap to prevent mishaps). This is a good one to consider starting with since you can get hairlines as well as larger coverage spray. You can get one for about $120 through TCP Global, and Amazon. Its worth every penny, Iwata brushes are killer.

Ooooh yes - Iwata all the way ! I love my HP-BCS & can pull some seriously fine lines with the needle cover off & a small cup from Paasche mounted kind of like a short gravity / bottom feed. HP-C / CS is my 2nd fav & love that i can still push metallics thru it. SBS & my micron C for the finest of lines at 5-7 psi - WOOF
Coast Air Brush carries full lines of most airbrushes especially the Iwata's - you pay for the good stuff though..... Paasches & Badgers are good budget AB's for less.
I've used them all & personally once I had an Iwata in hand, it never left !! Never really found anything that performed close to them......IMO
& PLEASE don't forget a quality respirator like 3M 6000 & fresh air flow......When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

Iwata is a winner. I have tried several brands and Iwata has always come through on every project. Their Eclipse series brushes are good to start with and then purchase others as your ability grows. Low cost to get ya moving with double action. I own 5 or 6 Iwatas. Love 'em.

I just bought a Paasche Millennium and havent done any work with it yet but hope it works well. It came with 3 sizes of needles so I hope it performs most of the work I need it to.

I still have my 1st Paasche, even though I rarely use it anymore. It's still a good brush, I just got tired of changing needles,...... & something with Iwata just sprays different......... But you will be happy to start of with the Millennium.
& Scourge - AWESOME airbrushing !!!!!! love the skulls, nice fine line details. & the Zombie -2nd pic down- SHweet !!When you look in the mirror at midnight,....what looks back at you.........

I own a Paasche basic model. Works fine, give okay small lines and works just fine for shading my bluckies.
