    Thinking about making some of these decorative thingys under the eaves. But have no idea what they are called. & I need to research it to get a better pic.

    Please help. Does anyone know what they are called? and thank you so very much!!

    Terra is correct, the architectural term is "Corbel". You can purchase wooden corbels from hardware stores, but they can get expensive. I would recommend you take the 2 inch dense foam and carve them to look like corbels. These will be an inexpensive solution, and they should look pretty good when painted.

    Fypon makes these in expanded polyurethane, ready to paint. Be aware, though, that most of the non-wood ones should be painted on ALL sides before they're installed outside.

    Now, to go research it. Definitely making them outta foam.

    I made a type of 'corbel' last year for my front porch; and didn't even know the name of what I was making!!! ... I am so blonde!! LOL

    Hey Cathy, on several occasions, I've had to either repair or duplicate and replace corbels on older homes that we've restored. The majority of the time, they are made up in layers as opposed to being carved from a solid piece of wood.

    Each layer has the scroll work done separately and then it's all face glued together. (if you're making more than one, you can tack a few pieces together for each profile and cut them all at once) Should be fairly simple to duplicate them in foam.
    I'm all that's left of a bizarre childhood.......
