You have a mp3 player hooked into the Firefly, then you hook the Firefly to your speaker (s) for the sound out. Pretty sure I remember that it came with the wiring you need.
For the lights I got four Minion's Web 120 LED Cool white bulbs: http://www.minionsweb.com/osStore/12...00k-p-305.html Put them in light stake holders and caulk siliconed them at the edges to make sure they were water-tight. They are placed one in each tree (four trees), using zip ties, all focusing on the house. Used really long extension cords to snake back to the Firefly. The Firefly box and MP3 player was covered with an upturned storage bin to keep dry. It was all on a timer and each morning the mp3 player would be recharged.
Learned that in order to have realistic thunder, you need a pretty big and good quality speaker(s). I use the mono track for the thunder so only need one speaker. Something like this: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringe...27-i1449707.gc
Also, it takes a bit of time to get all the settings right on the Firefly. It has a lot of adjustments to get the flickering to what you like and was a bit of a learning curve. But once you get it correct....what a show!

I am thinking about a Firefly as well, but I am a little confused at their audio hookup.
I wired my whole house (well, most of it) for surround sound and figured I would do something similar out front, thinking the Firefly acted as an audio receiver as well as controlling the light. As I was looking more in depth, I found my question.
Am I correct in saying the only Audio Out on the Firefly is a 1/8" audio jack? If so, how do you run that to your speakers? Do you need to run that to a separate receiver? If not, do you need powered speakers?
I am pretty comfortable with speaker wire and the 1/8" but am pretty sure you don't just splice them together. Do they include an adapter? They seem pretty against Y's and barrel splits but it looks like you can still swing stereo sound. So yeah... as you can see, I am confused.
I know I am missing something here and I hope you could help me out. I really want some lightning this October...

Yes, that is correct. I run mine from an mp3 player, split by a Y cable. One goes into the back of the unit and the other into a stereo receiver and then out to multiple speakers. It should also be mentioned that my audio track has a left and right channel that are out of sync with each other so that I get a particular effect (inside lights dim first, then thunder audio plays a split second later. It helps to make it more noticeable for indoors)
Yes. Its a low line level audio output jack, so you'll need to either connect it to a receiver or to powered speakers.
No adapter. I found all mine at Radio Shack.
Here's a diagram of how I set mine up:
