Has anyone used the DLP-IO8-G (http://www.dlpdesign.com/usb/io8.shtml) for data acquisition and control of their props, or other? I'm reading their data sheets to see if I could adapt it for computer control of props.

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the blood of the bean that thoughts acquire speed. The hands acquire a shaking, the shaking becomes a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

MonkeyBasic did a post on it but for some reason there is no reply field or comment section as I was interested to see how it works with VSA

His Helmsman software allows use of these as input triggers. Here's a link to the features page, that describes its use. In order to make it work consistently, you'll need to add pullup or pulldown resistors like this. Otherwise, when your trigger switch is open circuit, the digital input will float, and read whatever voltage is in the air (random).

for a Christmas display. It worked well. I didn't add the pull-up resistors and it worked 100% of the time anyway. I'm not real techie, so I don't know if that is because of the sensor I used (an object sensor that Bruce at Animated Prop Systems, aka pimpmyprop.com kindly supplied), or if I was just lucky.
Here's the display I created with all the know-how I got from making Halloween props: . The summary there has general info about how I set it up.

Great info. everyone. I see it comes with some stripped down software. Is this enough to do something like: input 1 (I1) = beam sensor, output 1 (O1) = sound system with speaker. If a TOT broke the beam sensor could I have the output trigger a soundbyte to scream "don't step there" or such?

I've used a USB relay to control my pneumatics and lighting. Again it is a relay controller, but it also has 8 digital inputs if desired:
I'm very happy with the unit. The device link is here:
http://www.labotronik.com/lang-en/us...ch-lab-us.html
They also sell a digital I/O device with 15 I/O and 6 analog inputs. I have it as well, but have not used it yet.

If you want an input card then look at this
http://www.freewebstore.org/Phoenix-...4_2530510.aspx
this is the Input card thats used for Exorcist and now available card only but still enables you to use the freeware version of Exorcist, but not DMXorcist which needs a licence code
Additionally there is an SDK available if you want to roll your own software in C or VB

Sorry for the pause between replies, work keeps stalling all this fun. I may have jumped the gun but I went and ordered one of these things as it was so cheap. I want to attach it to a junker notebook computer (with a bad screen) I have, out in my grave yard, as a controller. So if you: (1a) enter the open gate (1b) you break a beam sensor and (1c) a scary sound happens, (2a) step on a spot by a grave (2b) you trip a pressure mat and (2c) a graveyard grabber activates, (3a) if you stand in front of a tomb stone (3b) a PIR activates and (3c) a tomb stone popper goes off. This is a kind of plan I'm working on. So... with EMPRESSOFEVERYTHING doing the PEZ prop as proof the thing works I'm hoping I can pull this off, or something like it. Comments and suggestions are welcome.
