Another thread got me to thinking about doing a peppers ghost. But I was wondering if anyone knows if laying a 42" LCD flat and running it will damage the TV? I don't know much about the inner workings of LCD TVs. I would love to do this effect but don't want to damage the TV. I couldn't find much online to answer this question so any input would be appreciated.

Don't just take my word for it but I think with any LCD tv the only true factor is heat. You need to make sure that they always have more than adequate ventilation. But as far as being on the horizontal I don't think that would hurt it. I've seen a few places where people have their tv's mounted on the ceiling and I've never heard from them that the tv's stopped working

As long as you dont cover the the vent holes where it will overheat you should be fine.

Most monitors, TV's, and audio equipment were designed to "cool" themselves buy letting heat rise up through the top while pulling cooler air in from underneath. Laying it on it's side is going to disrupt that whole process. With a monitor, that heat is going to rise towards the screen. Not saying it is going to ruin it, but if you have any concerns, you might want to consider using a fan(s) to enable that same flow of air through the unit to keep it nice and cool.

I wouldn't do it. I know that you absolutely can't lay a plasma flat for any length of time, but LCDs can be laid flat for short periods.

It doesn't have the support in the middle of the screen, so even with an LCD, you're risking cracking or distorting the panel if it's a large screen. I'd probably do it with a computer monitor (something small) but a 42" seems too risky.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002
