Monster Mud is super easy to make. Just mix 5 gallons of wet drywall compound with one gallon of latex paint. You'll want a heavy duty drill and one of those drywall compound mixers to mix it all together though, doing it by hand can be rough.

^^^Yup, I remove alittle bit of compound from the bucket before hand just so it isn't so full of MM.
We stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside of us

Just mix only a small amount of mix drywall compound and paint, then when that's gone mix another. I don't mix the whole thing at once.

Have you ever had problems with a large batch hardening, before use?

My thoughts are that if you mixed up the whole thing and you don't use it all, then you have a batch of mud you won't use going to waste. I'm sure there are places to use it, but I just think in proportions.

Hope this helps. I know others have different opinions on this.
