I noticed that over the past two years i have been cutting back more and more from my passion of building props due to rising costs in materials (Buckies). Normally i purchase 2-3 buckies a year and this year i don't think i'll be buying any. I'm actually planning on recorpsing some of my older skeletons. I am also planning on building more tombstones because as much as i hate building them they are cheap(ish) to make. Plus with the very job security the last thing i have been anting to do is spend money.
Anyone else in the same boat as me?

I see it as a challenge to try to do even more with less!
Maybe get in on the Bluckies Group Buy? I'm considering buying one bucky this year to use in a high visibility area but once you've got things all corpsed and gooey a blucky can be pretty convincing if people can't go up to it and inspect it closely.

I don't even try to consider pruchasing buckys anymore. Bought 2...sold 2. With a few mods, a corpsed blucky will work just a good as the heavy-as$ 6ft bucky in the eyes of a ToT'er. Plus at 1/14th the cost...it's an economy proof version of the same prop. Homemade tombstones are getting more and more expensive because insulation foam is slowly being replace with insulated contractor plastic. Around here...I can't even buy the pink foam at Home depot or Lowes.

For me it is no so much money as it is I have so much.
I have so many props that when I set up in october it still looks full.
As far as the buckys I have two and love them.I got them at a great price so I can't fuss about that.I have just been buying the cheaper line easy on the pocket paul.
Mostly for the light wt and they look really good.
It looks like a bucky.

I know the feeling. Funds have been tight for awhile so look for freebee materials..... I've been collecting all that lumber from work which has been great source of lumber for me to build props with $0 cost. Also, I know the Buckies are nice, but you might want to take a look at the Barnies and Pauls, they are about half the price of a bucky and once corsped up, they look just as good!

I've been trying to just spread out the cost some. picked up some pvc last week for armatures and put it up in the garage. next month, some pvc fittings. Pick up one piece of foam for the tombstones next, etc. That way, all the funds aren"t being spent at once.

Last year was certainly rough.
I don't know that I would blame "the economy", however. Needing to replace a car, freezer (stand alone), fridge, repair the other car, etc. Now THAT impacted us, sure. Then the wind storm destroying a number of items I had in process....We spent less on decor last year than we had in 5 years.

Yep, I have slowed down my prop building a bit. I had worked at a furniture Mfg. plant for years and made a lot of life size monsters zombies etc. from scrap wood forms (please see my album and meet "Uncle Louie")
But now I changed jobs (Furniture Mfg. has been moved "off shore") and now I see how much $$$ things are I once got for free. (I miss free
)

Not really. I never spent much money on stuff anyway. Always have been looking for a bargain. I buy alot of stuff used and get alot of wood from my dad who has horded a bunch over the years.

There are other holidays besides Halloween? When did they start that?

I've definitely cut back on eating out and other non-essential items, but when it comes to props I still make that a priority. This is my only major hobby and it keeps me sane.
