This thread will be a collection of the plan and props for this year's theme for the haunt: Force of Darkness
I'm so excited to show you all the plan I've come up with for this year. Please look it over and tell me what you think. I'm most excited about making the Hell Horse
Here's the theme poster:
Generally, the ToTs will travel through the supernatural realms of the forces of darkness. The graveyard will have a Hell Horse burst out of a hell hole in the middle of it. The Hell Horse will actually be a ground-breaker with only the top-rearing half showing. Broken tombstones, flames, smoke and supernatural blue light will surround him.
The garage haunt's theme will have a lot of influences and art direction from an awesome game called 'Darksiders.' The visuals are stunning with a lot of focus on hits of saturated color.
Here's a screen shot example:
A video of gameplay:
For the first time, the haunt will be 100% ChromaDepth 3D. The theme just lends itself perfectly to the vivid, fluorescing colors of ChromaDepth.
Floor plan:
Let me explain a few things about it:
Me: Learned about 'scare boxes' a while ago. These are places where a live actor can be in position to get two or even three scares from one place. As the victim walks by one wall of the maze, they get the scare from the scare actor and when they proceed further in the maze the get scared in a different way from the same actor. You also see a 'my access' part of the maze. That allows the scare actor to move about the maze without the ToTs seeing them. The haunt controller and wine supply is also in this room...
First room (Worm Room): The first room is called the 'Worm Room' and I'll explain it thoroughly so you can understand how the floor plan works. They enter the haunt and it's a post-apocalyptic. They are still on earth but something bad happened here. As they continue they see strange tentacle-like worms suspended from the ceiling. On the floor is a gaping gash with the furring strips showing and fire licking. As they pass through the worms, I yank at one that is suspended by a pulley. Do you see how these scare boxes are starting to work?
Vampire Hall: Up ahead there is a silk pass-through curtain that has a strange supernatural seal painted on it. They pass through and see foreign-looking walls and columns (these are all painted ChromaDepth 3D walls). They turn the corner and see a fog curtain they must pass through.
Vampire Room: Now they are in the vampire's lair. They see Terra, a coffin and vampires sleeping while hanging from the ceiling. On the floor are glowing symbols etched into the stone floor (see picture above). While they are being distracted by all of this, I'll come from behind as a vampire and attack them. They run screaming (I hope).
Skull cave: ChromaDepth painted skulls that seem lit from the beyond. Up ahead is a suspended eye in space (another ChromaDepth) that has a hidden hole for an air cannon blast.
Mushroom: Strange growths are on the floor here and a menacing skeleton holding a hammer (ChromaDepth). As they pass, I swing the hammer that the skeleton is holding (I'm using another pulley). As they pass, I go into the access room to get to the final scare box.
Lava Room: They pass through another supernatural seal curtain to descend into another layer. Here is lava everywhere with wasps the size of eagles descending upon them (ChromaDepth). On the floor, the lava drips and forms into a river and then into an ocean of lava. As they approach, a spike of lava projects upward at them (TCT).
Monster Room: Another curtain seal and they now have arrived to where supernatural monsters are distracting them from me smacking the wood wall that is directly behind them. All the walls are covered in cryptic symbols and seals.
Devil/Demon Room: A very menacing demon is tauting them while I come up behind them to finally get my victims (vampire again).
Here's some more pictures from the game that helps gives you a visual into what I'm planning here:

I absolutely love it! I think that the theme works pretty great on it's own, but combined with your technical and artistic skill, this will be fantastic! I love how it mixes that post-apocalyptic vibe while at the same time laying on some heavy gothic, midevil (pardon the pun!) overtones.
It looks like you have a lot on your plate, so dont feel like you have to do any of these things, I just cant help myself but blurt out a few ideas you have just inspired in me
)
For the worm room, you could do more than one worm hooked up to a FCG style rig to give them movement, and just when the ToT's think they are all mechanical, WHAM you release the actor timed one! They also sell infared heat lamps that connect to spotlight holders at homedepot, so if you really wanted to play on all the senses, you could have one or two of those hidden and aimed at the guests as they enter the lava room to really sell that "melt-your-face-off" heat. I have even seen (somewhere, though I cant remember where) someone modify a pond pump to pump flourescent-orange tinted water up and out of greatstuff "rock" formations, giving the look like it was a lava erupting fountain of hell-fire. it looked pretty cool when they did it, kind of like those Discovery specials from Hawaii where they have those guys walking around in the giant shiny suits to protect them from the heat.
Reguardless, I LOVE the theme, and the plans you have rock! Cant wait to see the giant demon! I know we can all expect great things this year!
Lets see....Magic, miniature horses, penguins, lacrosse, volleyball, and Halloween
.......what, you seem suprised?

Thanks so much
Yeah, it would be neat to keep it up all year. I really like walking through it... really, really really do
Those are some sweet ideas. I was thinking of having the decoy worms to be rotating by ceiling ball motors so we are on the same track of thinking. You may have nudged me more with the heater idea for the lava room. Considered it but then didn't want to bother (takes up a lot of voltage) but then again.... it really would push it over the edge. That lava pump idea is the bomb! Was thinking of doing a section of lava like this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Gold...ween-Cauldron/ but the fountain thing is so cool thinking about it. Thanks for those awesome ideas.
Got to work on the model images for the ChromaDepth panels. These are the panels for the Vampire Hall. There will be three repeating panels of this image that will hopefully be very disorienting and intimidating when they walk down the hall:

And this one will be at the end of that hallway:

A really great concept - look forward to seeing it happen. I especially like the hell horse idea. I've been thinking about a headless horseman for some time now, but never started, so maybe this will inspire me!
