I've been doing a lot of browsing for wooden wagon/buggy wheels and everything I find turns up on the expensive side. My question is if anyone has found any on the cheap side ? I know Harbor Frieght / Northern Tool carries them every now and then, but I have not been successful as of yet. Looking to build a horse drawn heasre. The ones I have seen on here are just too awesome and I would like to give it a whirl. Of course, i probably need to finish up some of my other projects first ! HA, ha, ha. I have attached a pic of what I'm going for.....

    Thx !

The Christmas Tree Shop sells large decorative wagon wheels for $15.99 each. Could be used for a static prop. Don't know where you are in Texas, but the CTS website shows a store just opened in Dallas.

That is an awesome hearse!! I have a question tho... Are the wheels going to carry the weight of the hearse? I have a horse drawn hearse that used to have functional wheels but the weight was too much for them. My hearse is now static and the wheels are just for looks. (I have pictures in my 2010 album) So, you don't want to cut corners if you are going to put a lot of weight on them... they will bow and eventually collapse. Just something to think about

Awesome ideas and replies. Thank you. I guess I should have included a little bit more info. The wheels will need to be weight bearing as it will be rolled from back yard to front yard. I live on a 1/2 acre and this project seems like it will be heavy. Might even rig a hitch so I can use my 4 wheeler to pull it around. I found some actual old used carriage wheels for like $85 a piece. Sizes are 36" and 42". Kinda high, but at least I'd feel more comfortable about the weight issue. Thanks again for the replies and ideas ! This project will probably be started after tax season .....hopefully !

Try looking for some old metal wheels, that's what I did. The weight of the hearse was too much for the cheap wood wheels. although Evil Bob reinforced the wheels from harbor freigth and has a good tut on it , look at his project hearse

More awesome ideas. Thanks ! If I would just sit back and think sometimes, I would probably be dangerous.....

ihauntu - I wouldn't say money is no object, but you make a valid point.....you get what you pay for. Structure stability is my main concern.

    Once again, thanks !
