as some of you already know, i've collected some wierd items over the holidays, one of which is a brass divers helmet. (full size-its actually copper)
my plan is to sew the suit outta some artist canvas.
before i go wasting money on a lot of canvas, i figured i better check to see if this task was beyond my abilities.
i picked up this much smaller brass helmet and desided to do a test run.
granted it's no where near finished, but i was qute impressed for a guy with very limited sewing skills and a sewing machine that probably should have been thrown in the trash years ago..
he's approx 2' tall, totally built from scratch. (excluding the helmet)
tried to give him a bit of a frankenstien physique.
i started with artist canvas. ( gesso'd one side-basicly white acylic paint)
it gives the canvas that water proofed look on the underside.
its been stained with tea, cigerette butts etc to make it look old.
the boots are just some wood leather and brass. the weights on the belt are actually hammered out fishing sinkers. on the full size version i'm gonna use wood painted silver, then painted dull red. i'll chip and scratch the red paint off to reveil silver area's. it should give the ilusion of painted lead weights.
all in all i'm very pleased with the beta run. gonna finish it up and move on to bigger things (ie full size version)

WOW! Your beta test prop is as good as some of my finished props. Can't wait to see the full size version. He's quite scary the way you've made him so far.

thx guys, it was a blast to build.
my girl found me downstairs this evening (3am) building a tiny little mastodon ivory/damascus steel knife for his belt.
she's deemed me truely obsessed with this project.
