Liquid Latex is not a building supply. It is used in the movie and makeup trade.

Here is just one location to get it.

I picked up a couple of gallons from home depot years ago on clearance, it was blue in color and worked well for paper macheing as long as you were planning to paint over it. I don't believe they carry it any longer because I look for it. I think what they were selling was for carpet applications and would not work for mask making nor mold making.

Here is what building supply latex is used for:

Latex carpet sealer is an adhesive that seals carpet edges, seams, binds the raw edges together, and makes old, worn carpet backing stronger. Latex carpet sealer is also used when applying new backing to area rugs , whenever they wear out. This special adhesive keeps the carpet edges from unraveling and delaminating (coming away from the backing). Some reasons for unraveling and delaminating include: a defect in the latex sealer itself, excessive traffic in a specific area, spills that soak through to the backing, or being wet for a long period of time.

Most latex carpet sealers work best on woven-backed, jute, and latex unitary rugs or carpets. Latex carpet sealers do not work well on vinyl-backed and urethane rugs or carpets. When choosing an adhesive, a water-based latex adhesive is safer to use because of the low amount or solvents (liquids that can dissolve one or more chemicals). A water- based latex adhesive can be cleaned off the carpet as long as the adhesive is still wet and has not dried on the carpet’s nap.

The latex in the adhesive controls the tuft bind strength, delamination strength, and the elasticity of the carpet or rug. Latex is a mixture of water emulsed (liquids that does not dissolve in each other) with synthetic, natural, or other polymer rubber materials. The latex sealer in carpets is used in combination with other backings, carpets with low piles, and for coating the back of carpets or rugs.

    Nevergoback,

I never thought of the edge seal. I wonder if it is meant to be used on skin. Boy if you do a search for Liquid Latex you get some very interesting hits. I shared the politically correct site. LOL !!!

Has anyone tried "Plasti-Dip" rubberized dip for prop making?
I know clear silicone caulk can be used when mixed with glycerin...but what about this stuff?

I use carpet adhesive from Lowes. Henry Brand carpet adhesive dries pretty fast-most other brands don't seem to dry EVER, lol.

I use this and I got it at Lowes

If you dip paper towels in it and then put the paper towels on chicken wire it makes a water resistant skin like this

For liquid latex: Monstermakers.com is one place, Silpak ( where I go) , Frighprops.com...theres more as well.

I only use 'slip latex', for slush casting. There are some choices based on what you want to do with it.
