I really wasn't sure where to post this because I think it will encompass a wide range of special effects, but while watching the final eps of Caprica on the Syfy Channel, they ran a promo for a new show called FACE OFF. It's a contest of sorts to find the next great special effects artist. Here's a link the website for it. It starts on Wednesday, January 26. Thought maybe it might be a source for ideas and techniques for some props here.

Thanks for the heads up. I so wanted to do special effects when I was younger, but was told there's no future in that. Everything has special effects in now. Thanks Again

I agree BooBoo.. when I was a kid I honestly thought I'd do something in the Special Effects arts. Thanks for posting this Spookie. Now I'll have a new favorite show... well until the Walking Dead comes back on.

Nobody knows anything for certain about the future.

I'm not a huge fan of this TV format, but I'm glad to see this profession getting some airtime.

I think it was back in the 80s, I use to occasionally pick up a special effects magazine that was great. Can't recall the title of it now, but as I recall the articles featured different aspects of the profession and usually one or two artists in detail. Loved the photos of the step-by-step work product. For a while I use to buy it from Barnes and Noble and then they stopped carrying it but found it at Tower Records and then one day didn't see it again anywhere so figured it stopped publishing. It was a bit expensive but really nicely done and published on a glossy stock if I recall correctly. Now that I'm more into halloween and getting into props I wish I had a collection of the issues.

I hope I enjoy the show and hope that it does well enough to see another season.
