In my continuing effort to animate as many of my props as possible, I've gotten my skeleton fish to move as he struggles to get off the line. Here he is in this years Pirate display as a static prop -

Click on the picture below to see a short video showing the motion -

The micro servo mounted to the center of his back is controlled by a VLC designed by Fritz42 and will be inserted into the head of the fish. I'll be painting the servo and wires so they'll blend in better as well.

See post 14 for the video of the completed prop!

    Steve,

Very cool. Like to see the servo in the head as well. Don't know if that is possible.

I'm not going to put the servo in the head. It's attached to the middle of the spine so that it can pull both the tail and the head. I didn't like the motion as much when it was mounted in the head and just pulling up the tail.
I'm going to mount the picaxe microcontroller and a modified power supply to run the chip in the head and then run the wires for the servo power supply up the fishing line.

Now I see why you put it in the tail.

i would put it closer to the top of the body and let the fish tail splash in the water just above the water line gives it a more sureal look!

Here's a picture of the head of the fish with the original components removed and the new controller and it's power supply mounted inside. I'll just need to run the servo power up the fishing line now.
