I love those! I think half of my props regardless of where I have gotten them have weird smells. I think the worse over the past few years is the camo netting. Yikes.

I always just expect to take my stuff out and let them air out. The smell normally goes away. My guess is just the plastics smell odd. Come to think of it, our Christmas tree smelled really bad too.

....Or maybe they are the REAL Chucky dolls and you are in danger. :-)

The stuff is made in China. I can only imagine why things smell the way they do from there. I've had some really offensive smelling stuff along the way, most notablly the black velvet bag that came with the game nightmare, many years ago. WOW, that was bad!

That's so true! I open the bin of camo and LOOK OUT! phew!

The bin with the jute jetting has a potent smell too. But to me, it smells like Halloween

The jute type landscape netting I got from home depot smells quite a bit like petrolium. I could not figure out where that oil smell was coming from but then I figured it out. Oh well, that stuff is just too great to care!

I suspect the smells are chemical smells from the manufacturing process and not letting the product air out to dry before packaging. That or maybe the box or product got damp and it's musty or moldy? Personally since you never know how toxic some of this stuff could be I would try putting them out somewhere in the open air they could sit for a while without you having to breathe it in. And I wouldn't rely on thinking that it's not toxic because it would have been stopped before being shipped. The stuff that's been pulled off the market came about because of testing here after the fact.

I would think that the jute is natural and as an organic product would smell if it was closed up in something and not allowed to breathe. I bought some burlap a few years ago for my cemetary and the odors from it really bothered me. Also felt like I was always inhalling fibers too.
