Hey everyone.
I want to get started on my FCG for next year. I purchased all needed material except a motor. I am building the FCG from www.kickthefog.com . The dayton motor is no longer available. What is being used now as a substitute? I'm thinking a wiper motor turns to many RPM's. Just was curious what is being used for these now. any help would be appreciated. This is also my 1st attempt at an animated prop so I want it to be an easy install also.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
Thats why this site is the best lots of help & advice.
Tom

Monster Guts sells an equivalent to the dayton gearmotor:

IMHO, the monster guts motor is probably better than the dayton model (it turns at 5 rpm and daytons turns at 6 rpm...the lower rpm gives the FCG a better effect)."Waiter, there's a hair in my soylent green!"

Slower is better for sure here.

Yep, I liked the motor a lot (thanks bfjou812) . Nice and slowwww. Some people may not prefer the super slow movement...but I do. Certainly 6 rpm and even 5 rpm is just too fast for me. Looks like the ghost is dancing. The motor makes a slight bit more noise than the Dayton but that's not an issue for me since it's got a thunderstorm to compete with
Not sure if the Monster Guts is quieter.
You can kind of get a sense of the speed of the 3 rpm motor at the first part of this video:

Here is the old 6 rpm Dayton motor I had in 2009:

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the help. This whole prop building is new to me as of this past halloween & I think im hooked. Can't stop thinking about building stuff. I have 4 projects que'd that I must have for next year & the FCG is #1.
I might try something pneumatic I have 5 or 6 cyliders I picked up at a yard sale for 5 bucks. I'm a little apprehensive about the air just because i've never worked with it before & it's new to me.
Great vids Terra. You do amazing work & your tombstone tutorials are amazing. I have learned alot from you. Thanks.

The one I have uses a reindeer motor, very quiet and perfect speed but it does not have a lot of torque so you must counter balance the ghost. I didn't build mine but bought it from ghostbilders.com. you can check there web page for some pics. It has worked very well

I've been satisfied with the Monster Guts motor. I think they have a side-by-side comparison video on their website - there's not much difference, compared to the Dayton motor.

I used the Monster guts motor, but I added a sprocket and chain to reduce mine to about 3.6 rpm
