Last week I ordered a giant 40-inch cockroach and a 2-foot giant ant from Dapper Cadaver (btw looks like they have more in inventory--look under their sale and clearance area, $20/$10 respectively). Received my notice that they shipped (reasonable shipping btw) and now I'm looking for some ideas as to how I might use them or add some motion to them, like maybe make their antenna move. Any suggestions?

Get a picnic basket & checked table cloth, some fake food and have some barbies & kens trying to take the Gi-Ants food. It's early.

Thanks for your feedback chop shop and BooBoo. I like the idea of using something like a picnic basket in a scene to give the giant ant some scale. Not sure about Barbie & Ken though. I would probably have the ant picnicing on them instead of food anyway. haha.
I could see trying to come up with something to make the ant's mandibles (?) open and close in a munching motion.
I have a few of those Uncle Milton RC insects like the scorpion and tarantula. A similar set up on the cockroach might be possible since the body of the roach looks like it sits with it's belly on the ground. I think it's all latex though could be pretty heavy at 40 inches long and might require a more powerful motor than what Uncle Milton uses. The ant is a different situation with it's body raised in the air and so harder to animate.
What do you guys think about adding a half-globe "eyeball" over the exiting ones that could be illuminated from the back side to at least make the insects eyes light up?

ROTFLOL! One of those concrete tube forms would be a great start to make one. And at 20 feet it's sounding like "Land of the Lost" or one of those types of movies. Maybe not a bad idea for a theme.... You could even have low lying fog spray out of the Black Flag nozzle.

Thanks Billman! BoysinBoo's Pyroach is all I imagined and more! Antenna move, eyes flash, and the head has movement too. I'm using modified Hexbug nanos with rubber cockroaches bodies attached to the top of them as small moving roaches and figured the giant cockroach I bought could be the queen roach, not unlike BoysinBoo's setup although I will have some of my small guys scurrying about instead of being static. In fact I'm headed to Target tonight to pick up some Hexbugs on sale this week (posted about under the shopping thread, $4.99 each) to create more of the animated critters.
I received my shipment from Dapper Cadaver today and absolutely love the giant ant and giant cockroach (which is static and nicely done but somehow pales in comparison to Pyroach). Really nice detailing on both. I'm going to have to ponder what to do with them now. The Ant was only $10 and they still had more in stock so I decided I needed to create an ant trail and ordered 2 more. Maybe a super giant ant project will be in the works this spring for next year. The plan for this year is to do a zombie town/carnival and maybe I can use these props somehow in my sideshow area. Gotta fit them in.
BTW did any of you guys play a computer dvd game called Bad Mojo (Box front, Box back)? You essentially become a roach and need to survive, you live in a building with a bar. As I recall some rat scared the crap out of me too. The animation was absolutely outstanding and despite the game giving me the creeps, I loved playing it all the same. Now I'm playing with cockroach props, haha. I hate crawling or flying bugs of any kind so it's funny that I'm enjoying these props so much. Hope the kids will "enjoy" them as much as I do.
Really appreciate all the suggestions btw.
