I lost 2 of my cemetery fence columns this year. They made through two storms but when I was loading them into my truck a gust of wind blew one out and broke it in half, and I broke the other out of frustration. So sad I've been using them for 6 years. Anyway I decided to replace instead of fix. My idea is to create them out of light weight wood with removable panels so I can hide equipment inside. My biggest challenge is my vision for the tops. What I want to do is have a dragon figure on top of the 2 columns that will be on the sides of the gate. I want to have the dragons head facing upward with the body and feet on the top of the column and the tail wrapping its way down the column. Here's were it gets interesting, I want the dragons to be able to shoot a 5-6 foot flame out of the mouth up into the night air. I saw a video of someone who did flame effects with tiki torches and correlated it to music. I lost that video, so if someone has seen it I would like a link to it again. But do ya'll have any good suggestions on how I could program this? I will be using DMX this year so I would prefer ideas on how to use that.

Sorry to hear about the loss and sorry that I have no suggestions with the flame/music effect program. I myself find it takes me more time to rebuild something into what I want than to start from scratch. It's also more fun to begin a new project IMO. Maybe that is why I have so many unfinished things in my garage,HMMMMM.

Your ideas sound cool and I hope to see the progress pics soon.

Why is it that after reading this post I have a these lyrics from The Mob Rules by the Dio version of Sabbath in my head?

Play with fire, you burn your fingers and lose your hold of the flame, oh
It's over, it's done, the end is begun
If you listen to fools, the mob rules!

I'm guessing it's the play with fire, you burn your fingers that sticks out for me when it comes to making a prop with real fire.

The idea sounds great. Having them shoot straight out instead of UP though, seems like to could cause a serious lawsuit if someone were to get burned or hurt by them, even if they happen to be extra tall... some punk kid might find it hilarious to show off to his friends. Just a thought.

obcessedwithit- Thank you very much, this will be a good place to start.

MrOCT31- but I love to play with fire...hehe

imindless- I agree about the lawsuit, my wife has been a paralegal for 25 years so that is always in the back of my mind. It will be designed so if someone does get injured they will have to really try to.
