Going to call this a tree peeker as I have a large tree in the front yard and for next year I'm interested in making a full-size prop to peek from behind it, then light with a colored spotlight....
So I'm thinking a stake in the ground of sorts or a piece of PVC pipe stuck into a stake with an elbow pointing off to the left at a 45 degree angle? Glued....then add arms & head with a moveable elbow to adjust as needed?
Would this work and stay? I don't want to have to nail into the tree....

Oh and to be more specific, I'd like to use a Werewolf or otherwise Monster mask for this....big hands as if to menace...

I think they are discussing something like this

This is a very simple version of what I think they're talking about that I made this year. Its just some cut off floppie parts I had. They are simply screwed and wired in place.
Heres the back, I used the tree to hide the fact there is no body.

your not going to hurt your tree if you throw a few screws into it.
theres only a thin layer of living tree that moves the sugars to the leaves, the rest is basicly a poop shoot.
short of completely removing a strip of bark all the way around the tree, a few screws won't stop the the flow of sugars.
the tree will plug the screw holes a couple days after removing the screws.

I couldn't really find any....but I'm referring to making a PVC frame for a "person" but really only the top half of the person. I was thinking a straight stake into the ground with a 45 degree elbow of sorts to have it bent enough so that the prop when dressed & with a mask would appear to be peeking out from behind the tree.
I just wasn't sure if the whole thing would hold & not fall over or if the 45 degree would be enough of an angle.
MOS - that's sort of what I was talking about, but I was thinking of making it free-standing...

we drill holes in our tree, hammer taps into it every year (to collect sap for maple syrup)
no damage done to the tree.
i also do bonsai trees. theres a technique called ginning/jinning. you remove alot of the bark and soak the exposed wood with lemon juice.
this is the result.

as long as theres some bark to move the sugars, you'd be surprized how much damage they can withstand.
