I was hoping to use a few 50 - 60 gallon wooden barrels next year in our ghost town themed haunt. That is until I looked on Craigs list and they want $100 a pop Any body have ideas on where I can start looking for cheaper barrels?

I know you can get the plastic ones cheaper, and you could paint them to look like wood, or glue thin foam to them carved to look like wood. I feel like I saw someone on here paint one to look like wood.

They are hard to find, but some nurseries have them. You can also check with pottery stores and evan call wineries -- if you have some in your area.

Do you live near any wineries? They will sometimes sell off old wine barrels to the public. I got a couple of mine from a local lumber yard (That bought them from a winery) for $45.00 each.

This last one I got was at an estate sale for $25.00....

The ships' doctor warned me that I've been partaking in too much wine, women and song and told me that I should cut back a bit.........I am really going to miss the singing.....

Thanks, looks like I need to call some wineries and nurseries. I can't help but wonder if they smell like wine lol. All I know is when my neighbor makes wine it sure stinks for a week or so lol. (serious gag worthy stink)

    mic214 - I'm coveting your props lol.

Keep in mind you can always cut the barrels in half from top to bottom and from one barrel you now have two!

Ha ha ha.... yeah, mine did have a nice "Zinfandel" smell to them at first....but that goes away after a while....!

In the "Off" season, when my barrels aren't being used for my pirate display, I throw some boards on top of them and turn them into a make-shift bar....!
