New guy here…

Last year I lurked online for ideas on making a fog machine cooler with great success. Did the ice chest flow thru type, filled with ice and a 1k watt fogger on top. Work perfect and was a total hit!

I have the graveyard scene going on. All the props are tightly grouped along my walkway creating a close closed in effect as one walks thru. One thing I observed last year was the fog entirely covered my walkway to the front door and the TOT’ers seemed to be a little disoriented as they walk up to the front door. They stagger and shuffle along, unsure as to where there next step was. Needless to say a light went off in my head and decided that I would capitalize on this phenomenon next (this) year. Well, I did and hit a home run with it!!! Now I feel compelled to share!
I don’t know if this has been done before. If it has then you know what I’m talking about.

What I did was put a false floor on the approach to my front door. The walkway starts with the first eight feet, and then you must turn right 90 degrees and walk an additional 18 feet to the front door. I also built a fence to force the TOT’s to start on the first 8 foot approach in an effort to prevent anyone from entering from the wrong direction and tripping on the false floor.

The false floor mimics the exact size of my walkway; 42 inches wide and in the shape of an “L”. I used 3/4” particle 4x8 board cut down to the needed 42” wide. I used the remaining cutoff pieces to join each sheet into their proper position using appropriate screws. I then cut 4x4 posts 42” in length and placed them under the floor at 8 foot intervals to create a bouncing effect as one walks along the false floor. Everything is painted flat black to make the floor disappear into the darkness.
The scene is set!!!
It’s dark outside! The fog is bellowing thick! You approach a fence and notice a foggy graveyard with glowing green tombstones on the other side. You see there is only one way in and decide to venture on! The first 4 feet you begin to feel a little light footed and bouncy as you walk along the thick fog. You immediately pause with a giant look of uncertainty as to what is going on.
Its dark out, the fog is flowing, and the ground seems to be giving way and now feel as thou I’m floating. There’s a fence to the left and the start of a graveyard with glowing green tombstones to the right with more glowing graveyard straight ahead. You continue on 4 more “light footed” feet when all of a sudden a ghost appears above the tombstone; raising high into the air and swaying from side to side with a pair of glowing eyes! You’re now forced to make a 90 degree turn to the right onto a long walkway to the front door!
All you can see to either side of you are rows of glowing green tombstones with bellowing fog all around and an invisible walkway that you are now very uncertain of. But you must continue on! Staggering and bouncing your way to the front door, you’re greeted to walls of cobwebs and massive harry spiders clinging to glowing spider webs. You’ve made it to the door but notice a column of glowing pumpkins starring back at you thru the window as you dare yourself to press the doorbell.

Before you even have a chance to release the doorbell, the front door quickly swings open and a scary scarecrow over six feet tall with a jackolantern head jumps out screaming “WHAT DO YOU WANT”!!!

AHHH, what joy Halloween is!!!

My camera is not the best but here are some pictures of my stage. Just like with all pictures. It’s better in person!

Looking back from the front door…

It was a lot of fun doing all this work to make it a good time for the kids. It was also an unexpected surprise getting constant compliments from the TOT’s and parents. I’m glad they enjoyed it!

Can’t wait till next Halloween!
