We are hosting our 16th annual Halloween party this year. I used to be a nightclub DJ and have always loved "the big show". See the "Omenwood Hotel" thread at the Parties and Recipes forum.
Anyway, this year, like most last ones, we will have a house full of 40-45 people, and at some point, I will cue up a CD track on a 2000 watt commercial sound system that is covered by cloths and no one even knows is there, press a button on a wireless X10 control remote in my pocket and black out the entire house (we pass out glow sticks when people come in).
This is the "transition point" in the evening, when normal lighting goes away, and the whole mood changes. X10 will then turn on flicker bulbs here and there, blacklights, accent lights, and a fog machine "ice pipe" at the top of the stairs.
Almost 5000 watts of strobes are set up outside and are triggered by a separate CD audio tracked, synched to this opening one. When the lightening hits, the whole back yard is lit up by the strobes (VERY realistic), this while the house blacked out.
So have listen to this track. The blackout actually comes after the spark sound and bang at the beginning. Dead silence for a bit, then the SFX and music come in. This is amped up LOUD, and in the dark. With dim SFX lights coming on as the music builds.
I did this with cool edit pro, I have been collecting good lightening tracks for a few years. Usually people are dancing once the music is there.
PLEASE do not copy the mp3 and/or redistribute it....
