Relatively new here, but I have gained so much. Thank you everyone.

I was curious how people are managing their sound effects and music files. If the rest of you are like me, you've collected enough things over the years to cause frustration as you try to find that one file you just KNOW you have. After 10/31 I'm resigning to finally getting a system set up that works.

Any great success stories with music management or cataloging software?

If they are sound effects, I mostly manage mine by theme folder but also cross file / ref them if there are multipal cds or sound files by 1 person / artist, same with my hallowen music.
Haven't really gotten into any elaborate method, simple is better,....for me

Generally I try to organize within folders and such too. But using the standard media player supplied by Mr. Gates, things get all messed up. Yes, they are safe and sound within their main folders, but if I try to do searches within the player . . . ugh. And what happens to all the various single song files that don't belong with a particular album??? Those always seem to get 'lost'.

My hope is there has to be either a more elegant media player that makes cataloging more painless or some other solution that escapes my wee little brain. I do know of other players out there, but I really prefer not to start the long process of switching over w/o the thumbs-up from someone in the know.

BTW Dark lord . . . those files of yours you have been sharing . . . AMAZING

I don't use media player, mine is more a little more manual, but less of a headache losing things in a search on media player......... unless you buy one of the expensive players,....not worth it to me....... i like to keep my file folders 1 themed -1 artist for multiple cds by same artist, like Nox Arcana...etc. I found it easier to peek in a theme folder, i just really lay out detailed folders to make it easier for me to find a track, once i see the name of a track or cd, i remember that the one.

I kinda like Media Monkey ... it makes it very simple to tag mp3's, and easy to search mp3's by tag later. But you're right ... when there's 15 GB or so of mp3's to look through, finding just the right one gets tricky.
