I'd like to make some labels for potion bottles. I know I can make them with a simple program like Paint, and I do have a program for making cards and stuff, but is there something to sealing the labels so the ink doesn't run if it gets wet or is the problem that I have a really cheap printer?

If you have an inkjet, then the ink will run.

I have access to a professional color laser printer, so I do all my labels on that, and I can soak them in water and it doesn't hurt them.

I would suggest getting your labels the way you want them to look and then if your printer's printouts look good, taking them to get them photocopied in color (should be cheap-ish), or a memory stick with the files on it and have them output the files as color lasers so you have water-stable versions and can get them wet.

Not sure if there is a better alternative, but that's what I'd do if I was in the same boat.

I have an injket printer so I tea stained my paper first then printed out the labels. I blotted the paper between paper towels and then when dried I piled heavy books on top of the pile for a few days to make the paper flat enough to feed through the printer. Printed out the labels then carefully torn them out.

I attached them to the bottles with a glue stick. For a sealer, I watered down white glue then brushed it over the label. After it dried I wiped off any excess glue with a wet rag. I'm sure there are better sealers but it's all I had on hand. Plus the labels will be easy to remove.
