I made this twig broom from dead branches of my crepe myrtle which are perfect as they are just the right thickness and wispy towards the ends. We had a bad freeze here last winter and I have a lot of dead branches. The handle is a walking stick my son used when he was in scouts, it had the perfect twistiness to it. Tied it together with sisal rope, put it in a flower pot wtih a piece of pvc in the middle for support then filled with marble chips. Sprayed it all black to make the marble chips look like charcoal.
Sorry about the Sun makes for a washed out picture, it was 95 here yesterday....sigh...but the morning was nice.
I wanted to burn in the letters, but the piece of 'wood' I found turned out to be hardwood laminate and the wood burner just wouldn't burn it. I used my husband's dremel trio and that darned wood was so hard the dremel actually burned it as I routed, so the effect was pretty good. I'm going to leave it out so the cut edges of the sign can weather.
I might dry bush it with some grey to make the letter pop more, what do you think?

I really like this idea. It makes me think of a Wiccan belief that if you keep a broom by your front door your home will be protected. I do feel something could be added to make the sign pop more. I think it needs a splash of colour. Also I think it would be pretty cool to put spanish moss in the planter with a plastic frog or something to that effect.

I agree with Sugar Skull - I love spanish moss, it just adds so much depth to projects. I'd add some to the top of the sign....let it hang down a little on each end maybe...and yeah, something needs to be done to the letters to help them pop - try the gray dry brush painting you were talking about. I think that'd help some. I absolutely love the broom though, it's amazing!! Such a good idea!!
You done good nevergoback!!
