the second one (logwood) would make a very nice stand up coller for a witch or vampire costume. I guess you would have to use a BUNCH of starch!

that's so funny -- I can just picture it!!
It took me a while to decide on which yarn to use for the butterfly wrap -- first I thought Caron simply soft in navy blue, it was okay but not the look I wanted, so I tried it in black, still no go, so I just tried Patons Brilliant in Prettiest Plum and it's perfect! The pattern is amazingly simple, but i finally just got started for real yesterday and here's how it looks so far, this is just the top part of the back -- I just LOVE this yarn, it's a deep sparkly purple . . .
I'll be sure to post some more pics as I get further along!

I also can't wait to see how these turn out. Looks like you're off to a nice start, Effie!

Effie is it a complicated crochet pattern? I wouldn't mind giving it a go but Ican only do basic crochet.

I apologize Annea -- I just saw your post. I'm only a beginner, too, I don't consider myself an expert at crochet, so I was a little hesitant to try this pattern because it looks very complicated -- but I'm finding that it's really not that difficult, amazingly! Every time I've gotten confused, I've been able to figure it out and it wasn't that bad after all. . . I found a web site where someone made the short version and hers turned out absolutely gorgeous -- way better than mine -- although she does seem to be an expert - her site is here.
I thought if I got to a part that I can't figure out, I might try contacting her -- LOL! Here's mine so far . . .
