Enter the old, stale popcorn that I meant to string for last Christmas, but didn't. It had turned a nice golden color, and of course it's tough, but that's a good thing.
OK, so I thought, popcorn is associated with Halloween as much as Christmas.... but strung by itself, it just looks too Christmassy. "What about adding some candy corn to the string then?" I mused.
Tried using the real thing. Didn't work. Nasty little corns just cracked and gummed up my needle. Despair.
Then the light came on. Three packages of Sculpey... off-white, orange and yellow. Make fat rope of yellow and press it rather flat. Make fat rope of orange, place it on top of yellow, and form it into a blunt wedge, the length of the rope. Make skinny rope of white, stick on top of orange, and form the triangle shape a little sharper. Slice rope into 1/4 inch thick slices, and punch each slice with small nail. Bake on parchment paper covered cookie sheet, 275 degrees, for 15 minutes. Poof, a whole handful of fake candy corn that strings easily!
I'll take a picture or two when I get enough of them made to do one of my rafters.

That's a great idea. I think it would be especially great if you are have kids. You know, something to do together. Can't wait to see pics.

I was thinking about making Halloween garland too. I was considering buying a candy corn garland I saw at Marshall's and restringing it with some other stuff too. I'm too lazy to craft my own candy corn! I love the Glitterville candy garland too! What a great idea they had to make "candy" our of felt wrapped in cellophane! I'm excited to see how yours turns out!
