To go along with our Scary Tales theme for 2012 I would like to make Dead Fairy trophies...what I was thinking was to use mason jars and dirty them up a bit with brown and green paint (similar to the witch jar technique) and paint the lids to look rusty (NO HOLES)... then I figured I would attach some leaf skeletons (found at craft store) onto the little skeletons from Dollar Tree...I want it to look as though the fairies were captured but died in the jars. What else should I put in the jar...grass, twigs, dried blood streaks from her banging against the jar wall trying to get out???? I want it to look eerie and fairly realistic...thanks
Hi there, I really like your ideas! It depends on the size of the jars/if the fairies were meant to stay alive, or not. If the jars were meant to house them the way people keep fish in an aquarium, then go nuts making a little habitat for the fairies, including sticks and moss and such. But if it was just to sort of hold them (stuff them in there, stick them on a shelf, and come back later when their parts were needed for a potion or something of the like) then you might want to stay away from that. It's all up to you. I like the blood idea! You might even want to include glitter in there, just to make it seem like the magic sort of disintegrated off her body as she decayed.
I'm thinking like how kids collect lightening bugs....but in this case they forgot to fit holes in the lid and the poor thing tried and tried to get out...but it kept hitting the glass until it finally died from lack of oxygen...I love the glitter idea maybe some extra fine glitter mixed with a little dust as if it were remnance from her deteriorating flesh. Thanks for the help
Herman Secret has done something like this and has a few pics on his site from halloween 2010. His fairy was doing the thinking man pose and another was in small birdcage. Maybe message him for what idea he ran through before he finished his fairies.
You did an amazing job. I hope mine turns out half as good Plus i found a recipe on pinterest for making my own skeletonized leaves so that should help cut down on the expense...cant wait to start
