Hello everyone! For this Halloween I decided I might be a little creative and carry a creepy haunted baby with me!
The only thing is I have no idea where to start! I don't have much money at all, and I'm a total newbie at crafts that don't come in a box! lol
So, I was planning on buying an old baby doll from a local goodwill or yard sale to modify (baby dolls are everywhere around here at yard sales and such!) Maybe one with a soft body so I could easily wrap it up and carry it around with me. I'm not entirely sure on what theme to give it either (might depend on the doll I wind up with) but perhaps something either just dead, zombie-ish, vampirish, or very darkly goth. I want it to match my outfit which is going to be a sort of dark angel bride (leather corset, red-black tulle skirt that is short in front, long in back, lil black wings, and a black veil).
So, does anyone have any idea where I should start? What sort of easy effects could I make for cheap? The tools I would need, etc. ?

at most stores you can get fangs, horns, etc, for real cheap. spray paint red(for demon) or grey for zombie. Then go over it with a dry cloth with just a little black paint or shoe polish for dimension. rub the black off, just a litle is needed to assist. Glue the fangs on, maybe tease the hair with mouse or glue, glue on (depending on size of doll) fake nails and sharpen to points, then put a polish on them. If doll is small, perhaps broken teeth from a plastic for glued could be fangs.
remember to cover the eys with some type of tape before you paint. if using latex paint, and the eyes are glass, you can easily remove the paint after .. but not spray paint
just a quick glance of ideas

hi, here is a link to my zombie baby i made just to give you an idea
I hope this helps.
My zombie baby :)
I just used some acrylic and poster paints.
I used black, green, brown and white.
I mixed a kind of dirty green for the body using the green with a bit of brown and black added. I painted the whole doll in this colour.
I made a greyish brown by mixing black and white then adding it to the brown, I dabbed it on the body using an old sponge.
I then made a very dark green and shaded the creases, nooks and cranies with a very dry brush.
I shaded around the eyes with black paint on a dry brush and painted the eyes white.
I then cut out tiny triangles of card and glued them in the mouth for the teeth.
at the end i painted a severed finger green and added red paint for blood and glued it in the zombie babies hand (which is on page 4 of the link)
And i didnt need to seal it with any sealant paint afterwards as it didnt chip, but if you are planning on carrying it around all night then i guess you might need to.

Lady JOL, Great work on the Chucky doll!, you were my inspiration on my zombie baby. Thanks!
gilnokoibito, On page 6 of Lady JOL's zombie baby thread I had added pics and video of my zombie baby. I just used acrylic craft paints and used different brushes. I did a basecoat first then dry brushed different layers. The teeth are polymer clay, baked, then glued in place. I also painted the hair with craft acrylics and a brush.

Awesome you guys! Your all's doll's are all so cool! I can't wait to start making mine! I just need to go shopping for a baby doll (been asking around for one from my friend's, hopefully someone will have an old one they want to give away!)
I already have tons of paint, I'll have to buy some of those foam brushes though, and I should be set! It'll be even better if I can get my aunt to stop by the Halloween City near where she lives and get me some fake horns, I remember them having some and she said she'd come and visit this weekend. I'm so excited! I can't wait!
Thank you all so much for the pics of your dolls and the info!
