I made this first set of 3 for my Secret Reaper victim this year (BooBaby) who I hope likes them. I had posted the first two in pmpknqueen's apothecary label thread (she is the undisputed queen of fabulous labels!), but I saved back the third one so no one saw it until my victim received her package... there may be more, just don't have them planned right this minute. (I'll track down this thread when I get around to making more for the series)
Anywhoo, I love puns. I love turns of phrase and riddles and colloquialisms, and I wanted to incorporate that into my potion labels. They will look good sitting with other bottles, but if anyone reads them, they should get a chuckle or grin. I like having silly things mixed in with the spooky, so I figured some other haunters out there might get a kick out them too.
Anyone is free to use these labels for their own personal use. Please no commercial/sales usage, and no altering the label with intent to sell. As long as you want to make them for yourself or a few friends, that's perfectly fine with me.![]()
They are sized a bit larger than what I used on the bottles pictured, so try printing them out at different sizes to get the best fit for your intended bottle. The green/brown smudges and streaks across the bottles and labels are enamel paint used to simulate well-used bottles with a little grime and gook on them. Enamel won't peel or wash off, but might chip over the years... so it's better than acrylics.
So 1st one:
Hair Of The Dog
(I used fake fur in the bottle)
Label the 2nd:
Pearls Of Wisdom
(I used some old costume jewelry and a few dollar store necklaces)
And the brand-spanking new, 3rd label:
Crocodile Tears
(used a dollar store child's icepack - cut open for the gel beads inside)
Whole set ready to go.
The croc tears label was designed to fit a rounded bottle, but will work just as well on a flat front. Cut it out with scissors or xacto following the rounded border, and it should go on pretty well. If you are applying it to the round, put the glue on the label first, let it soak in a little and then ease it on from the bottom up. I like wrinkles in the label, so I forced some in there, but it should go on smoothly if you give the paper a chance to get a little soft from the glue (I use regular white school glue).

They all look good but I just love the croc tears. What a clever idea on the ice pack.

If you're on a Mac, it comes with Preview bundled in your standard software, which allows you to resize:
Go to the "Tools" menu, select "adjust size" and play with the sizing (but make sure the "scale proportionally" checkbox is checked).
If you're on Windows, then you should have a program called MS Paint. (if not, I believe you can google and find the Microsoft addy that allows for it to be downloaded free)

And you can always place the image into something like Word and adjust the sizing from there...Last edited by Frankie's Girl; 09-28-2011 at 09:30 AM.

Love these! I was in charge of a bloody mary bar at a party last year. I labeled all the makings with Macbeth inspired labels. Eye of Newt (olives), Toe of Frog (garlic), Wing of Bat (celery), etc.
