If you find a real white feather boa, the dye will stick. Some of the ones at the craft store are synthetic feathers. They will not take dye.

see, thats kind of what im thinking... that because the cheap boas are synthetic, that the dye wouldnt stick. i might try it just to make sure... but wont be surprised if it doesnt work. might have to see if i can find some black ones cheap online or something....

The season premier of Project Runway had the designers working with synthetic bed sheets. Anyone who tried to dye them black got a muddy gray color.

I swear I've seen black feather boas at AC Moore, maybe even Michaels too. They're easily available on Amazon too.

What everyone else said about synthetic anything, they're right, it won't take dye well. I'd imagine most of those dollar store boas are synthetic or they wouldn't be sold in a dollar store.

They're not that expensive, the ones I googled were less than $5, that's cheaper that the cost of the $1 boa & the dye.

Also AC Moore has individual feathers. I bought some last year for a doll I made.

Just a thought here...you might try a fabric/vinyl spray paint. It should be available at a craft store, or maybe even Home Depot/Lowes. Might work since it's a paint and not a dye. Just a suggestion.
