I bought the little guys from Michaels a few weeks ago.

They are like the popular Disney Vinylmation dolls. Does anyone know how to go about painting them? Do you need to prime them, or use special kinds of paint?

I saw those & wondered the exact same thing. I think they had paints above them so I assumed those would be what you'd use.

I really want to get some of those so I looked it up. For best long lasting results you need to scruff then primer the figures.

I bought the pumpkin one. I used regular acrylic paints and sealed it with some semi gloss finish.

take a peak at my avatar to see how he turned out.

No, I used no primer. The acrylic paint went on very smooth and covered very well. The semi gloss finish will seal it.
