We are moving into a new home in May. I'm worried about having the cemetery in the front yard that the house will actually take away from the "scary." We thought about making it appear like an old cottage or an abandoned home. Another thought was building a facade to make it look like an abandoned church. We were wanting to go with a zombie theme, but we're not against going with a witch's theme. Any suggestions?

Have you thought about making your house look like a mausoleum? It seems so fitting, and all you need to do is concentrate on the grand and spooky entrance to the mausoleum to help conceal the rest of the house. Just find a way to create a large bolted door and pillars on either side. Then dress it up to help fit the theme. It would be some work, but not as much as constructing the appearance of a church, i wouldn't think. Anyway, I found a pic on the internet to help you see where my idea is going. hopefully photobucket cooperates with me.... [IMG]

If you want to do a zombie theme maybe an army bunker facade would work. It could be like the zombies have taken over and the only safe places are the zombie outbreak shelters.

I vote church. I love creepy old country churches. And even though it's sort of ubiquitous; there's nothing like spooky cemeteries at Halloween!
Nothing beats a haunted moonlit night on
All Hallows Eve...
