Target seems to be overrun with glittered foam pumpkins and glittered resin skull greeters. I was wondering if anyone has advice on re-painting them with a different color of glitter paint? I'm OK with the glitter (!!!!!), not OK with the autumn green and orange colors for next year's black and purple wedding.

hmmm... it might be easier to start with an item that wasn't already glittered
To glitter an item, I have just used spray adhesive and glitter
But if you want to reglitter or paint these particular items, I would try to remove all traces of the original glitter first by rubbing, or washing it off (using adhesive remover if necessary)
Then repaint or add new glitter

You could paint them black or purple with spray paint or just go right for a primer like Kilz to get rid of any traces of the original glitter color, then re-glitter them in black or purple glitter with the method propmistress suggested with spray adhesive & glitter.
Sometimes those things are painted their glitter color underneath so maybe you can try to remove a small bit to see if it's white or some other color underneath & to see how easily the glitter comes off.
The new crop of glittered stuff seems to be REAAAALLLY glittered. It doesn't seem to come off as easily as older glittered stuff.Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

Thanks for the input. I was afraid this might not be as easy as slapping additional glitter on top of the old stuff. Before I plunk down some cash - especially since the 75% off ones are no longer on the web site - I think I'll play with some Dollar Tree glittered skulls.

Good idea.
I don't mind glitter, not a fave on certain items, but on indoor decor it can work. I'm glad that new glittered items seem to have glitter that doesn't all come off on everything. It's the first thing I check when I see glittered items for any season, I have to touch them to see how well the glitter is gonna stay. If I look at it & the glitter falls off, no dice for me!
Those skellys & pumpkins at Target seemed to be put together pretty well & the glitter seemed to stay really well. Let us know how it all goes.Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

I just bought some glittered skulls & a glittered light up pumpkin at Target at their 50% sale.
The skulls are just styrofoam underneath the glitter, the pumpkin is white plastic underneath the glitter.
I may try to remove the glitter from the pumpkin, but the skulls will have to be primed then painted. Especially the pink one. I don't mind the black glitter but I don't think I can abide a pink glittered skull. Or maybe I'll just use it as a form for other paper mache skulls. Either way I couldn't pass it up, glittered or not, at less than $2.Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

You don't have to take the old glitter off. The skull for my cauldron stirrer Rick was originally glittered. Painting over it with regular white latex paint works perfectly fine. After that you can just use some spray on adhesive and put on your glitter. DO NOT USE SPRAY PAINT!!! It will make the glitter layer crack and start dissolving the foam underneath.

Kilz primer works really well for covering almost anything. Good luck.
Eventhough I am Dead it is always warm inside my bed.
