I know boring right? ..but I found the "ghost robe" at the salvation army for $1, not the hood, but I have better ideas anyway:
    • the "dress" itself is synthetic and will not glow under blacklight.

    • Was originally thinking wig, but the cost is a bit high, do you think white hairspray with some cheesecloth bobby pinned in would look just as good?

    • Make up, white of course

    • since the dress is a bit short for me, boring, and shapeless, I was thinking of taking cheesecloth and stitching pieces to the robe randomly, I do have some skills. Maybe treating some of them with RIT, or making some gray?

    • would tulle work better? stand up to a beating? I am hosting my party and I will be running around alot.

    • I thought about a chain belt to lessen the shapelessness (is that a word?) but i end up looking like Leia in the first Star Wars

    • have no ideas for the arms yet
    Anyone have ideas?

There's nothing boring about this costume. You're ingenious - I like your ideas! Would love to see your pictures when you finish.

    Wow, great find for $1!

Sounds like you've got a lot of excellent ideas already - as with most costumes, you've got to just try some things out and see how you like the effect. I've never heard of white hairspray, but seems like it would work well, with some whispy bits added in!

    Ghosts are never boring.

Even the simple white sheet over the head can still creep people out - it is unsettling to be regarded by someone in a sheet, someone standing in the night, watching, the breeze billowing the sheet... the original "Halloween" makes this case effectively as well.

As for your particular rig, it's got real potential.
    Here are some random ideas.

The cheesecloth - on the body, try to drape it all down from the neck, like a tabard. Have some over the arms, and maybe a veil of it over the back of the head.

Arms - either match the makeup on your face to your hands (Ben Nye cream makeups and setting powder hold very well for this sort of application, don't use greasepaint) or wear gloves of some sort. Flesh colored hands will kill this look.

The Chain - Wear it draped over your arms and back like a boa or a formal shawl.

Final touch - Carry a light of some sort, like an LED candlestick or candelabra, a lantern with a battery light inside, a frosted hurricane lamp, dry (as in no fuel at all and no wick) with an LED tealight or some blue glowsticks in the flue.

Also consider wearing halloween contacts, either white or light blue. If blacklights will be in the area, get some blue UV reactive contacts so your eyes actually glow.

These are just my ideas for the costume. Feel free to disregard each one, I was just brainstorming.

I always think one with a white wig and skin painted a pale white is pretty eerie.
