I've been searching secondhand sources looking for the perfect Lady in White dress, something high collared, lacey, and with a vaguely Victorian feel that didn't look like a wedding dress. I found an almost perfect candidate today, but no matter how hard I try to deny it or play with lighting, it's definitely pale peach in color. My original plan was to place it on a white skinned (and I'm not talking Caucasian white!) mannequin with a GITD long white hair. I think that it will look even more peach against the true or near true white of the mannequins I have in mind.

I found fabric paint that promises to be opaque white but can't imagine going over this entire thing with a paint brush, let alone what paint would do to the lace. My experiences with dye have been less than stellar on far less ambitious projects, although I'm game to try again if need be.

Should I ditch the Lady in White concept altogether, at least where this dress is concerned? Do I leave it peach and just have a pale ghost lady? Dye it grey for a spectral look? Black?

Surprise me with your creativity Pictures to follow tomorrow.

Would the lace bleach? I have a similiar dilemna with one that I bought in a light lavender. I would love to have it white or black. I guess that i will settel for a gray by dying it black.

Photos attached. In the dim light of my family room the lace appears to be white, but I'm so bleary-eyed that anything short of black is a distinct possibility.

You could put a colored spot light (blue?) on the lady in white and that may disguise the color discrepancy. Have you tested the fabric to see what it does under a black light?

You could spray paint it. It's not permanent, and might rub off, but if you're putting it on a mannequin anyways, it shouldn't be a toxicity problem at all.

Alternatively, you can find pump spray fabric paints, but that would take FOREVER.

I think it looks fine the way it honestly but I would just use a colored light on it like someone else suggested.
