So after finding out I'll be 7 months pregnant at Halloween, I've had to change my costume idea from a vampire hunter (nobody wants to see very pregnant ladies in vaguely sexy ass-kicking attire. Or maybe just I don't).

So in the search to stick with my "Romp in the Swamp" Louisiana theme, I've moved on to plan B: Cajun Gumbo or jambalaya!

I got a super cute crawdad hat which was my inspiration, and plan to make a bowl with suspenders to wear, which I will fill with "rice", "shrimp" and other faux food ingredients.

My question is - what do you use for a bowl? A large planter? Is there something at home depot that will be perfect but I don't know the name of because I have zero home improvement skills? I'm sure many of you have seen/made costumes with a "bowl" (they seem particularly popular for kids, but I'll need a little extra room). All help appreciated!

How about using a Hula Hoop and gluing black plastic drop cloth or fabric around it to make a bowl? Then attach suspenders to the hoop.

Or.....At Toys R Us they sell these large play balls that you inflate and I don't think they're that expensive. It would be easy to cut one of those in half and attach suspenders to it to help it maintain its shape, but I don't think you could paint it (they're usually red) unless maybe acrylic paint for plastic might work.

a cheap large dollar store bowl cut in half , glue onto a shirt, add suspenders and fill....or, get a large ball or balloon and paper mache it to size and cut and shape, or I remember once seeing a picture of a pregnant womans costume where all she did was put a doll head and arm glued it on a ripped bloody shirt to look like it tore out the stomach....like aliens movie....thats a little scary for some tho lol

Just my 2 cents but I think, as do many others, that pregnant women are intrinsically sexy. For that matter, ass-kicking comes with being a mother. Nobody messes with a mother protecting her child.

That said, you must do what you are comfortable with. Good luck with your gumbo recipe.

How about a kids plastic pool?? They will be on clearance pretty soon, and you could cut a hole on the bottom to fit around you and rig suspenders to hold it up, and have plenty of room for the "recipe". Spray paint for plastic should do the trick of hiding the fishies and such that are usually printed on them. I love the idea for the costume, very original!

As much as I like the idea of attending as gumbo (would an ordinary cauldron work for the bowl?), I'm with the others who think of pregnant woman and women with young kids as fearsome. How about attending as a pregnant skunk ape? That's one mean mama I wouldn't want to mess with!
