Hi, does any one have any ideas on how I could pull this one off (pun intended)
Severed Head Reel F/X Prosthetics for Halloween Costumes: Halloween Costumes
I thought about getting a piece of plywood, and cutting a hole in it to put my head through, then spanning it between two tables and covering every thing with a table cloth. Then I would get a disposable pan, and cut it so I could put my head through it. Add the effects kit, and the end result would be my head on a platter, with no visible body. I would also put a lid on the pan, to startle the first guest through the food line. However, after the initial shock, I'm worried that it might be a dull way to spend the party. Has any one done this before?

this gag might be better if you sit and wait under the table while everyone gathers for your party, not touching the food, waiting for you to show up (perhaps waiting to see the surprise awesome costume
) and when they are done waiting, someone in on the joke can call them all in around the table and reveal your surprise scaring them all at once,.
then after the initial gag is done and the friendly 'that was too good, how you do it?' discussion is over you can get out from under the table and place a dummy head in the faux food container for any late guests.
that way you get you cool gag and you get to enjoy the party, just be sure to have a second costume that fits with the make up
...somewhere in the north-woods darkness, a creature walks upright.
And the best advice you may ever get is never to go out…at night.

I've done this as a table set for four, using a huge cardboard box as the table. I found a disposable gold platter and a gold planter with a handle glued on it for the cover. I glued fruit all around the hole where my head went through. I did it with a friend for the trick or treaters. It was the HIT of the neighborhood. Dogman's ideas were great for a party!

Thanks for the ideas. I think that having a second costume is the way to go. This is for a work party, so I don't want to go all out. also if I show up in a different costume it will throw them off. I liked the idea of using the pot as a lid. I was wondering how I was going to find a lid that I could fit my head in.

With a mirror you can hide your body behind it.

The mirror is a good idea, but there will probably be a table cloth on the rest of the tables, so I'll just use one to blend in.
