OK, here’s the deal. I’m giving my first ever real Halloween party this year, a small one for family and friends, probably all young-at-heart adults (if any of my friends bring their kids, they won’t be little ones… elementary school age). For years when I was married, my ex-husband “frowned” upon Halloween, so I’m just now getting the chance to really celebrate, and I feel just as excited as I did when I was a little kid!
Anyway, I’m trying to decide on a costume. I just turned 50. I’m a large but surprisingly graceful woman. Pretty green eyes, nice skin for my age, but I lost a front tooth a few years ago, so I’m a tad strange-looking now (it’s OK, I’m comfortable with that! :->). I’ve got it down to either a mad scientist or a crazy cook, since I can get a cheap lab coat OR a cheap chef’s jacket on ebay, and I sew, so I can make whatever I need to go with either one. Either would work at the party, because I could roll up the sleeves and play hostess without my costume getting in my way (my bell-sleeved medieval garb just won’t do this year!). But I can’t decide which way would be more fun to go!
So, could y’all send me some ideas? What would YOU do? Fun accessories? Which one might be more suitable for a crazy but spirited ol’ lady like me? Any hints about “playing” either role would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I think either look would be great, but it would definitely be a hoot to have the "crazy cook" dishing out the food for the party. I'm horrible at costume design, but I would think that if you mussed your hair up with gel, and maybe got a chef's hat? You could also have a fake cleaver hanging out your pocket, with dried fake blood on it of course. Hopefully someone else will come up with something better, there's so many people here with great imaginations!
Good luck, and be sure to post a photo when you get it all put together!

Definitely the cook. Those of us of...shall we say...ample proportions make great chefs!! Never trust a skinny cook, I always say!!
One of those cool chef hats (that sort of look like a mushroom) would be really neat. And you could stuff your pockets full of cooking utensils...whisks, wooden spoons, etc.
You sound like a fun person, hope you have a great time!!
